How to Check Engine Oil on the BMW X4 G02 (Electronic System)

The G02 X4 does not feature a traditional dipstick. Instead, it relies on an electronic oil level sensor. Here’s how to access and interpret the information:

1. Warm Up the Engine:
For an accurate reading, the engine needs to be at its normal operating temperature. Drive the car for at least 10-15 minutes. It's best to check the oil shortly after turning off the engine, allowing the oil to drain back into the sump.

2. Access the Menu via iDrive:

5. Read the Oil Level: The dipstick will have markings indicating the minimum and maximum oil levels. The oil film should be between these two marks. Ideally, it should be closer to the maximum mark without exceeding it.

6. Check Oil Condition: While you have the dipstick out, examine the oil's condition. It should be amber or light brown and relatively clear. If it's black, thick, gritty, or has a milky appearance, it's time for an oil change.
