Expert Porsche Engine Rebuilds: Our Capabilities
We are equipped to handle a diverse array of Porsche engine projects, from the meticulous restoration of classic units to the high-performance demands of modern racecars. Our current workload showcases the breadth of our expertise, with nine engines undergoing comprehensive rebuilds. This includes a formidable 3.0-litre Porsche RSR racecar engine, a testament to our capability in high-stakes motorsport. We are also engaged in a bespoke Porsche 912e engine build, a project that exemplifies our commitment to customisation and enhanced performance. This particular build involves a significant upgrade package, featuring a big bore configuration, a long stroke crankshaft for increased displacement, and a fast road, high lift camshaft to optimise valve timing and lift. Furthermore, the cylinder heads have been meticulously modified, including gas-flowed ports for improved airflow, reshaped combustion chambers for optimal combustion efficiency, and 5-angle valve seats to ensure perfect sealing. The ports have also been blended to smooth the transition of the air-fuel mixture.
Our expertise isn't limited to traditional Porsche models. We also undertake specialised projects for related marques, such as the BMW 2002 featured in our current work. This involves intricate modifications to the geometry of the rotating assembly. We are utilising the stock crankshaft, but coupling it with 144mm con-rods, which are 9mm longer than the original specification. This strategic alteration, combined with custom pistons designed to achieve a more desirable rod ratio, increases this critical ratio to 1:8. The bore size has also been increased by 3mm to further enhance the cubic capacity, resulting in a significant boost in performance and torque.
Common Porsche Engine Issues We Resolve
Beyond full rebuilds and performance enhancements, Performance Porsche is adept at diagnosing and rectifying common and sometimes complex engine problems that can affect Porsche vehicles. Our technicians are well-versed in addressing issues such as:
- Scored Cylinders (Bore Scoring): A prevalent issue in certain Porsche models, we employ precise machining techniques to repair or replace scored cylinders, restoring engine integrity.
- IMS (Intermediate Shaft) Bearing Failure: The infamous IMS bearing is a concern for many Porsche owners. We offer expert solutions to address this potential weakness, providing peace of mind.
- Timing Chain Issues: Proper timing is crucial for engine health. We meticulously inspect, repair, or replace timing chains and associated components to ensure correct synchronisation.
- Cracked Cylinders/Liners: Such damage can be catastrophic if not addressed promptly. Our team has the expertise to repair or replace cracked cylinders and liners, safeguarding your engine.
Warranty and Peace of Mind
We stand by the quality of our workmanship. The majority of our engine builds are backed by a comprehensive warranty, offering either 2 years or 24,000 miles of coverage, whichever comes first. This warranty provides our customers with significant peace of mind, knowing their investment is protected. It's important to note that this warranty typically excludes engines used exclusively for track racing and components that were not replaced as part of the original rebuild specification.
