This commitment is underpinned by a comprehensive Accountability Framework, which meticulously tracks progress annually. This tracking is accomplished through surveys and self-reporting, monitoring the advancement towards the ambitious promises made to uplift women and girls globally. The framework also incorporates biannual analyses of the Action Coalition blueprint targets, annual assessments against the WPS-HA Compact Monitoring Framework, and evaluations of the core principles guiding the initiative, such as feminist leadership, intersectionality, and transformation. Crucially, it also involves the sharing of impactful stories that highlight real-world change.

Findings from the 2024 Accountability Report

The 2024 Accountability Report, now in its third edition, reveals that Generation Equality is indeed delivering tangible, high-impact results. Through detailed data analysis, compelling impact stories, and the showcasing of exemplary practices, the report confirms and consolidates the solid progress reported at the previous midpoint. Based on an analysis of 1,308 reported commitments, an impressive 16 per cent of these commitments have now been completed, with a further 75 per cent actively in progress. The financial commitments, which form the essential backbone of Generation Equality, have seen a substantial increase, reaching $50.3 billion. This figure notably exceeds the $40 billion committed at the Paris Forum in 2021 by a significant 25 per cent.

Generation Equality is also demonstrating considerable impact through the implementation of 1,926 new or scaled-up policies, 4,448 programmes, and 5,739 advocacy initiatives. Furthermore, the Signatories of the WPS-HA Compact have collectively reached at least 24.8 million women and girls in 2023 alone. These signatories reported spending a minimum of $1.5 billion in 2023 to support women's participation in peace processes, ensure economic security, and promote leadership and protection. Encouragingly, over half of the reporting signatories have adopted new laws, plans, policies, or strategies to bolster the implementation of their Compact commitments. Almost all of them have also referenced youth and intergenerational initiatives within their reporting, underscoring the inclusive nature of the effort. Crucially, through numerous documented examples, Commitment Makers and Signatories are reporting direct and tangible impacts for millions of women and girls.

Moreover, stakeholders involved in Generation Equality have reported deriving significant benefits from their participation. These benefits include the formation of sustainable partnerships, the creation of enabling environments for gender equality, capacity building, and access to new financial resources. As a result of these positive outcomes, a remarkable 94 per cent of Commitment Makers are now contemplating the initiative's trajectory beyond its initial five-year timeline. They recognise that Generation Equality's actions should be scaled up beyond 2026 to serve as a crucial accelerator for achieving the broader 2030 Agenda. Despite this overwhelmingly positive outlook, the report also identifies areas where further improvement is needed. These include enhancing implementation and reporting processes, deepening stakeholder engagement, strengthening partnership building, improving monitoring mechanisms, and fostering better coordination between the Action Coalitions and the WPS-HA Compact.

Recommendations for Enhanced Impact

The findings from the 2024 Generation Equality Accountability Survey and the WPS-HA Compact reporting framework clearly indicate that Generation Equality has successfully catalysed partnerships, significantly increased investments, and driven high-impact results in a relatively short period. To achieve even greater and more sustained impact, several key actions are recommended:

  • Strengthen Partnerships: Foster more robust and collaborative partnerships across all sectors to leverage diverse expertise and resources.
  • Enhance Monitoring and Reporting: Refine data collection and reporting mechanisms to ensure greater accuracy, transparency, and comprehensiveness.
  • Improve Coordination: Streamline coordination efforts between the various Action Coalitions and the WPS-HA Compact to maximise synergy and avoid duplication.
  • Scale Up Successful Interventions: Identify and scale up successful policies, programmes, and advocacy initiatives that have demonstrated significant impact for women and girls.
  • Sustain Momentum: Develop strategies to ensure the long-term sustainability of Generation Equality's efforts beyond the initial five-year timeframe, securing continued progress towards gender equality.
